On December 2, 2014, the ABC Board of Education, held their annual reorganization meeting. This is for the selection of the
Board President, Vice President and Clerk.
I wish to congratulate Maynard Law on becoming our newly elected Board President. Although I served as Vice President this
past year, the majority of the board... Armin Reyes, Olympia Chen, Celia Spitzer and Maynard Law, voted against my nomination
to become the next Board President.
It is clear, that my board colleagues still need to heal from the election results of Measure AA. It was obvious from their
actions last night. For some reason, they feel that my vote against placing the bond on the ballot is the reason why Measure
AA did not pass. It was not my vote alone...it was the voices of the 9,679 residents that voted against it. Their voices were
heard and their vote needs to be respected. I am asking my board colleagues to set aside their anger. There were many others
who supported the bond and for most of them, we have "agreed to disagree". And for that, I am grateful for the mutual respect
we have for one another. I encourage this board to do the same. They need to respect the voters and to value the opinions of
the ABC community...myself included. There are times when a board is unable to reach a unanimous decision. However, a 6-1
vote is just as healthy as it shows transparency. We need to move forward in developing a plan that is in the best interest of
our students, parents and teachers.
Next year will be an eventful year as we celebrate ABC's 50th Anniversary! I look forward in continuing the collaboration
we have with our employee groups as well as our PTA's and our foundation. There is much work ahead of us and I am confident
that together we will have student achievement for all of our students here in ABC.
I am honored to have served as your Vice President this past year. Thank you for your continued support!
Happy Holidays to you and your families.....and a prosperous New Year to you all.
